Judge Cheryl Cole has turned down a chance to work with Simon Cowell in the US - because she fears Americans can't understand her Geordie accent.
But the 26-year-old beauty WILL launch herself as a pop singer in the States by releasing her No1 single and album there in the new year.
Cowell has begged Cheryl to join him on a reality show in America, promising that he can make her a huge star.
But she insists she can't be tempted because she is convinced that her strong Newcastle accent will put off viewers.
Now she has signed up with top US music label Interscope - who have Jay-Z, the Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga on their books - to release her album 3 Words and single Fight For This Love.
Cheryl is being lined up to promote her songs on the top US chatshows of Jay Leno and David Letterman. She will also be interviewed in best-selling glossy magazine Vanity Fair.
A source close to Cheryl said: "She is determined to crack America but wasn't sure that the TV work was right. She is realistic and knows people don't always understand what she's saying.
"Simon has told her time and time again that he can make her a huge star but it's simply not what she wants to do.
"She is his number one girl. She loves doing The X Factor, she's having the time of her life but now the opportunity has come up to launch herself as a pop act in America she would far rather do that. Cheryl is excited, she can't wait to get herself over there and crack their music industry.
"She has signed up to one of the biggest labels and has everyone behind her.
"It's a dream for Cheryl. She is also delighted that she is already being lined up to appear on chatshows - it's a great career move." Cowell was desperate for the Girls Aloud star to appear on his hit show American Idol.
He also wanted her to be a judge on the US version of The X Factor which he hopes to launch in two years' time.
Cowell believed Cheryl could have been even more successful than Sharon Osbourne - a worldwide star since starring on The X Factor and America's Got Talent - and Britain's Got Talent star Piers Morgan.

But Cheryl's decision means she won't have to spend long periods away from her husband, 28-year-old England and Chelsea star Ashley.
Instead she will travel between home and work commitments.
The source added: "Cheryl and Ashley's marriage is fine, despite recent rumours.
"She is a committed wife and doesn't want to spend a long time away from him. He is fully behind her and incredibly proud."
Geordie stars Ant and Dec, both 34, failed in their bid to crack America last year with their TV show Wanna Bet?
They were warned they needed to tone down their accents so viewers could understand them.
